Whiteley swan attack prompts police inquiries

HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY have announced they have launched an “urgent” appeal for witnesses and information to assist their continuing investigation following a serious incident in Whiteley that occured earlier this week; which saw a swan suffer multiple non-fatal injuries after it was reportedly attacked with an air rifle in the Solent Business Park site.

The wounded swan was found at approximately 10am on June 6 (Thursday) in a space close to the ‘Bridge Deck Café’ and it has since been established that these injuries are consistent with being shot by an air rifle. Police were informed and they have carried out initial enquires, whilst the bird did not die from its injuries and was treated by veterinary staff.

Investigators are keen to establish the full circumstances behind the incident and want to speak with anybody who may know what happened or who might be responsible. This includes those who visited and worked at the business park on Thursday morning, alongside those who noticed any suspicious individuals or movements within this surrounding area.

Investigators are asking for anybody with information or footage to contact police by calling the non-emergency number 101 and quote the case’s reference number of 44240238480. They can further submit details using the online reporting tool available on the Hampshire Police website, with all official support and further guidance available on the links here.

Alternatively, readers can contact the “independent charity” Crimestoppers 100% anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 for absolutely free; or via their anonymous online forms which can be found through their website: https://orlo.uk/250kR
